My name is Barbara Smith and I started this site.  It is primarily concerned with the family and descendants of Patrick & Annie Smith of Curkish, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, Ireland and Patrick & Maggie Heaney of Crocknahattina, Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, Ireland. (The photo on the right is an old one of the main street in Bailieborough).

The Smiths had four children, John - my father, who lived in England (two children), Matt, who lived in Ireland and never married, Betty who lived in south Wales (five children) and Tessie, who emigrated to Canada and went on to have 12 children.

 The Heaneys had ten children, one of whom (Deanna sp?) died as a child, one, Ownie, stayed living in Ireland (three sons), one, Maisie, - my mother, lived in England (two children), and the other seven emigrated to the USA, five of whom having 17 children between them. 

I've just counted up - and that makes a total of fifty one Smith/Heaney descendants in just two generations!

Naturally, the family has continued to expand  with descendants spread throughout the USA, Canada and Europe.  I hope that you find the site interesting and I apologise for any factual errors  that you may find.  

Please feel free to correct them and to add any other information including dates of births, deaths and marriages and, especially, any photographs and anecdotes to really bring the site to life!

Also if you could add where people were born, died and are residing, the statistics page will become even more interesting.

I am delighted to announce that I have recently upgraded the account for this site to Premium. This means that there is now room for 2,500 people and 500mb for photos (about 500) which should be enough to keep us going for a while. (If we do start to run short of space there is now the option for family members to chip in to upgrade the site to Premium Plus which gives unlimited storage - click on the tab 'Our Family Goal' for more info).

Please could I ask that before you post any photos could you make sure that the file size has been reduced to about 600x800 pixels so we can get as many on as possible. (Here's a handy guide to uploading photos on the web http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/digitalimaging/f/pixelsonline.htm )

I'd also like to say a special 'hello' to new members of the 'Lang Clan' who have recently joined us - it's lovely to see you all ...

Welcome to the world - my latest little great-niece, Maisie Rose Smith - your Great Grandma - (my mum) Maisie Smith, would be so proud :)

Maisie Rose Smith was born at 4.48 pm, 16th March 2011, weighing 8lbs and 3 and a half oz!

she narrowly missed being a St Patrick's Day baby !!!!

It's a big weekend in the Smith/Moore family - Cory Moore was 11 on Friday, Kian Moore is 6 tomorrow and Sian Smith is 21 today! Happy birthday to you all :-D

We want to see some party photos here!!!!!

Hello everyone,

I thought it was time for a little update on the Smith/Heaney family tree on myheritage.com

Just to let you all know that I've set up a web address that will take you directly to the site if you copy it and enter it into your browser -

Thank you to everyone that has visited recently and updated their information and photos - have a look at the statistics page for some great information. I had a look today at some of the statistics and would you believe that the average family in the Smith/Heaney descendants is 2.4 children!

Some of you have still yet to visit - just come in and have a look and maybe add a little information or a photo - have a look at your grandparents and great grandparents - there's some interesting history here including a copy of the Irish 1911 census form completed in Grandpa Heaney's own lovely handwriting

On that note, I've been looking at the records for the arrivals of immigrants at Ellis Island in New York where I presumed that seven of the Heaney siblings landed in the 20s and 30s from Ireland but, so far, have found nothing. Any suggestions please?

I'm still struggling to find out any information on the Smith side of the family so if any of the Hands or Langs have anything to add it would be wonderful :)

To date there are 201 individuals listed in the site which is getting very close to the 250 allowed under the free plan. I will probably pay to upgrade to the next level and incorporate my husband Richard Crouter's family where his mother's side has been traced back to 1340!

I would love to have some feedback from any family member that has the time to have a little look at where they fit into this tree.

Today I was excited to find a copy of the 1911 census completed by Patrick Heaney listing his wife Maggie and seven of their children. I'm a little puzzled by Bridget aged four and can only assume that this was how Peggy was known - I always believed that she was Christened Margaret.

Also, Patrick, Owen and Maisie are yet to be born - and also the sister that my mother Maisie used to refer to as Deanna and who she said died of Spanish flu aged about two.

This is a mystery as Maisie always said that she was the youngest of ten - yet this would make 11 siblings!

If you click on 'Household Return (Form A)' you can see the form in Patrick Heaney's very neat handwriting!
